About The Role
As a Community Support Worker, you’ll support one person (or a small group) in a residential setting. Your day-to-day work will change depending on what each person needs and what matters to them.
- Help with daily living tasks and personal care (as required)
- Support community participation, appointments, social activities, work or education
- Communicate respectfully with the person you support, their whānau/family, and your colleagues
- Maintain safe boundaries and stay calm in challenging situations
Skills And Experience
- Empathy and respect for people living with a disability
- Energy and motivation to support people to get out and about
- Ability to stay calm and help others stay calm
- Resilience and good judgement to maintain boundaries and support safety
- Confidence explaining things and finding solutions together
- Clear communication with the person you support, their family/whānau, and your team
- Willingness to support personal care and build daily living skills
- Strong spoken and written English
What You’ll Bring
- Willingness to work towards (or already hold) a Community Support Worker Level 3 qualification — we can support you to achieve this while you work
- Experience supporting people with disabilities and/or mental health needs is helpful, but not required
- Reliability and a genuine commitment to supporting people
- A full New Zealand driver’s licence
- Ability to pass a New Zealand Police check
- Basic computer skills (for example, Microsoft Word and email)
Immigration / visa information (non-residents)
- You must meet Immigration New Zealand (INZ) Skill Level 3 requirements.
- This may include: 3+ years paid work in the care workforce at (at least) the care workforce wage rate, or a relevant NZQCF qualification (at least Level 4 for a Skill Level 3 role, or a diploma for a Skill Level 2 role).
- This permanent part-time role is mainly to cover staff leave. You are guaranteed 64 hours per fortnight, but the days and times may change from week to week depending on operational needs and available work.
