Teaching Assistant – Complex Needs

A specialist educational setting in Rossendale seeks a caring, resilient and enthusiastic Complex Needs Teaching Assistant to support children and young people aged approximately 3‑19 with a wide range of additional learning and developmental needs.

Start: ASAP – Contract: Full Time, Long Term

This highly rewarding role involves supporting pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC), communication needs, physical disabilities and complex medical needs. Some learners may also require sensory support, personal care and assistance with mobility throughout the school day.

The school is part of a well‑established specialist education trust and benefits from a multidisciplinary approach, working closely with teachers, therapists and support professionals to deliver personalised learning programmes and specialist facilities designed to support communication, independence, life skills and emotional wellbeing, with a strong focus on preparing pupils for adulthood and achieving the best possible outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Support pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
  • Assist with personalised learning activities and therapeutic interventions.
  • Help implement EHCP targets and behaviour support strategies.
  • Encourage communication, independence, social development and confidence.
  • Support pupils with personal care, feeding and mobility where required.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists, families and external professionals.
  • Promote a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEND, autism or complex needs.
  • A patient, compassionate and adaptable approach.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • A genuine passion for helping vulnerable learners achieve their potential.
  • Relevant qualifications within Education, SEND, Health & Social Care or Childcare (desirable but not essential).
