This role involves working across the full lifecycle of digital products and services, from early problem exploration and sales support through discovery, design and delivery to live service improvement.

You will collaborate closely with service designers, user researchers, engineers, product managers and architects to ensure solutions respond to real user needs while working within organisational, technical and regulatory constraints.

Key Responsibilities

Experience and interaction design

  • Design intuitive and usable digital experiences that respond to user needs and business goals
  • Create design artefacts such as user flows, wireframes and prototypes to communicate and test ideas
  • Contribute to shaping the user experience of complex digital services across multiple channels and touchpoints
  • Translate research insights and service concepts into practical product and interface design solutions
  • Working across the delivery lifecycle

  • Contribute to early project shaping and discovery work to help teams understand user needs and problem spaces
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams during design and delivery phases to develop and iterate solutions
  • Support usability testing and design validation to ensure products meet user needs
  • Contribute to improving products and services once they are live through ongoing iteration and learning
  • Collaboration and consulting

  • Facilitate workshops and collaborative design activities with clients and delivery teams
  • Work closely with engineers and architects to ensure designs are feasible within technical and organisational constraints
  • Communicate design decisions clearly and support teams in making evidence-based product decisions
  • Contribute to a shared understanding of user needs across teams and stakeholders
  • Contributing to design practice

  • Advocate for user-centred and evidence-based design approaches within delivery teams
  • Contribute to design standards, design systems and shared design practices
  • Support and mentor more junior designers where appropriate
  • Share knowledge and learnings within the wider UCD team
  • Qualifications

    Skills and Experience

We are looking for designers who combine strong interaction design capability with the ability to work effectively in complex delivery environments. You may have gained your experience in consulting, product teams or large digital transformation programmes.

    Essential

  • Strong experience designing digital products or services in multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to translate user needs, research insights and business goals into practical design solutions
  • Experience creating user journeys, wireframes and prototypes
  • Experience designing and iterating solutions based on user feedback and usability testing
  • Strong collaboration skills when working with engineers, product managers and researchers
  • Ability to communicate design thinking and rationale clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Understanding of accessibility and inclusive design principles

  • Designing experiences within complex organisational or regulatory environments
  • We are interested in designers who are curious about how emerging technologies are changing digital services. This includes interest in:

  • how artificial intelligence is shaping user experiences
  • how new tools and technologies can improve research and design practice
  • how organisations can responsibly integrate new technologies into experiences that work for people
