Lewisham Irish Community Centre enables people to build resilience, retain independent and fulfilled lives and access the right kind of support when required.
The Lewisham Irish Community Centre offers a frontline advice and advocacy service, assisting with all areas of housing and welfare benefits, including disability rights and entitlements. This service is available weekdays onsite, through home visits, and via satellite services.
Purpose of the Role
We’re seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic and experienced Advice Service Manager to lead and deliver Lewisham Irish Community Centre’s frontline advice and support service. The Advice Service Manager will contribute to the strategic aim of the Lewisham Irish Community Centre to meet the needs, improve opportunities and reduce poverty of the Irish Community. You’ll lead a team of 3 x Advisers/Caseworkers who support with client casework and outreach.
The postholder will need to have excellent communication and organisational skills. You will have experience supervising, motivating and developing a team. You will be required to manage an active caseload, ensuring cases are appropriately actioned and recorded while ensuring tasks and deadlines are consistently achieved by the team.
Main Objectives:
To work with existing welfare team supporting the delivery of high-quality AQS services (welfare advice drop-in appointments, outreach service).
Provide information, advice and advocacy to clients on a range of welfare-related issues including welfare benefits, housing, debt, access to healthcare and supported, accommodation, returning to/moving from Ireland, Irish state pensions, Irish passport applications.
Provide line management to the advice team, including regular supervision, appraisals, performance management, coordinating team administration and reporting, implementing and maintaining team processes and ensuring adherence to best practice.
Contribute to monitoring service delivery, recording outcomes and ensuring efficient allocation of resources.
Promote the Information and Advice Service across all networks, proactively building and engaging in partnership working with Irish and local community services.
Work within Lewisham Irish Community Centre policies and procedure of confidentiality, Safeguarding, data protection, equality and diversity in all areas of work.
Support the CEO with service development including planning and future direction.
To carry out administrative tasks associated with the duties of the post and other
Duties as required by the CEO including monthly reports.
Attend regular reviews and supervision.
Take responsibility for training and professional development of themselves and the team.
Maintain an awareness of policy changes and good practice.
Maintain and develop community information resources.
Refer clients to internal service when appropriate.
