NHS Lothian Pharmacy & Medicines Service – Royal Hospital for Children and Young People
Specialist Pharmacist – Band 7 | 1.0 WTE | 36 hours per week. Permanent position. Salary: £52,769 – £61,377. Includes oncall, weekend, and public holiday rota commitment.
About The Role
We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic pharmacist to join our pharmacy team delivering quality pharmacy services across paediatric specialist areas including general medicine, surgery, intensive care, respiratory, neurology, gastroenterology, rheumatology, endocrinology, renal, infectious diseases, haematology, and oncology.
The post holder will contribute to the development and delivery of the clinical pharmacy service, supporting emerging challenges around site capacity and patient flow. They will be a key member of the multidisciplinary team, acting as a pharmacist with an established non‑medical prescribing role. The post holder will work within the medical team and will be trained to cover the acute receiving unit and specialist medical wards.

Essential Qualifications and Experience
- Master of Pharmacy Degree (or equivalent).
- Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
- Completed training or equivalent competence mapped to the RPS Post‑Registration Foundation Pharmacist Curriculum.
- Membership or record of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme for the required regulatory group.

- Experience in proactively influencing prescribing and using clinical knowledge to optimise patient care.
- Strong patient‑focused approach with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills, enabling effective decision‑making in an acute medical setting.
