The Role
The Business Improvement Manager is responsible for the continual improvement of the operation and governance of Channel 3’s internal business systems, compliance frameworks, and technology delivery. The role provides leadership across information security, quality (ISO), environmental management, ESG, business continuity, supplier governance, and operational compliance.
The post holder will support the Head of Delivery in maintaining a robust operational infrastructure that underpins service quality, data security including GDPR, and organisational resilience.
What would be expected of me as a Business Improvement Manager?
Operational Governance and Leadership
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of operational frameworks, ensuring systems, processes, and controls are effective, efficient, and aligned with organisational objectives.
- Oversee corporate governance arrangements, including policy management, compliance monitoring, and internal control frameworks.
- Coordinate and oversee all non-financial audits, including ISO certifications, ESG assessments, and internal reviews.
- Ensure the organisation successfully maintains ISO certifications by planning, coordinating, and overseeing all re‑accreditation activities, external audits, and corrective action programmes.
- Support operational due diligence for new strategic projects.
- Develop and maintain the organisation’s suite of corporate non‑HR policies, ensuring they are compliant, current, and appropriately communicated.
Management Systems and Compliance
- Maintain and continuously improve the organisation’s certified management systems, ensuring compliance with:
- ISO 27001 – Information Security Management
- ISO 9001 – Quality Management
- ISO 20000 – IT Service Management
- Act as operational lead for the Information Security Management System (ISMS), working closely with the Head of Delivery (as Chief Information Security Officer) and CFO to deliver and maintain effective security controls and awareness across the business.
- Lead training and engagement activities to embed compliance and security practices across the organisation.
Business Continuity and Risk
- Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of the organisation’s Business Continuity Plan (BCP), ensuring it remains current, tested, and aligned to business operations.
- Support the identification, documentation, and management of operational risks, ensuring mitigation plans are in place and regularly reviewed.
- Ensure business resilience planning is integrated into operational activities.
IT and Supplier Management
- Own the strategic and operational relationship with the organisation’s Managed Service Provider (MSP), ensuring services meet agreed performance, security, and availability standards. Identify and drive improvements in this service.
- Oversee IT‑related contract management, service level monitoring, and escalation processes.
- Lead the procurement process for onboarding key suppliers, ensuring due diligence, contract compliance, and value for money.
- Develop and maintain the Supplier Code of Conduct, ensuring it reflects Channel 3’s values, ESG commitments, and compliance standards.
- Oversee supplier governance processes, including periodic performance and compliance reviews.
ESG and Sustainability
- Lead the development and delivery of Channel 3’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) programme.
- Ensure ESG principles are embedded across business operations and monitored through measurable objectives.
- Drive continuous improvement in environmental performance, social responsibility, and ethical governance practices.
People and Collaboration
- Provide leadership and support to the operations and IT functions, ensuring clarity of purpose, accountability, and high standards of performance.
- Promote a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and operational excellence across the business.
- Work closely with senior colleagues to ensure operational initiatives effectively support business and client outcomes.
Who would we like to hear from?
Experience and Capabilities
- Experience in a senior operational, compliance, or governance role within a professional services, consulting, or technology environment.
- Demonstrable experience managing certified management systems (ISO 27001, 9001, 14001, 20000).
- Strong understanding of information security, ESG, business continuity, and supplier governance.
- Experience leading audit programmes, managing third‑party service providers, and developing business policies.
- Strong analytical, organisational, and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and influencing skills.
- Proactive, self‑starter with a can‑do approach. An individual who thrives in an environment that does have changing requirements and is adaptable and positive.
