The OldSchool Surgery is seeking to recruit an Operations Manager to support the effective organisation and development of services across the practice.

Working closely with the GP partners and finance manager, the Operations Manager will help oversee the operational running of the practice and support the work of departmental managers across administration, nursing and dispensary services.

The role focuses on ensuring teams work together effectively, processes are well organised and services are delivered in a way that supports both clinicians and patients.

We are a friendly, partner-led practice serving around 7,500 patients in Stoney Stanton and are continuing to strengthen our team structure to support high‑quality patient care and efficient service delivery.

The Operations Manager will play an important role in supporting collaboration across teams, developing operational processes and helping ensure the practice delivers a consistent and patient‑focused service.

Main duties of the job

The Operations Manager will support the day‑to‑day operational organisation of the practice, helping ensure that services run efficiently and teams are supported in delivering high standards of patient care.

The role will work closely with departmental managers across the practice, including administration, nursing and dispensary services, helping ensure operational processes are organised and consistent.

The postholder will support the development of systems and processes that improve how teams work together and how services are delivered to patients.

Working alongside the GP partners and Finance Manager, the Operations Manager will also contribute to the ongoing development of the practice, helping ensure services remain organised, responsive and focused on patient needs.

Our multidisciplinary team includes GP partners, salaried GPs, practice nurses, healthcare assistants, patient coordinators, administrative staff and a dispensary team. We also work closely with a wider clinical team including clinical pharmacists, physiotherapists, a paramedic practitioner, midwife, mental health practitioners and social prescribers through our Primary Care Network.

Reporting directly to the GP Partners, the Operations Manager will support the effective organisation and coordination of services across the practice and ensure that departmental teams work cohesively to deliver high‑quality, patient‑centred care.

The role provides leadership and management to departmental managers, helping ensure operational standards are maintained and that teams are working effectively together to exceed patient expectations.

This is a hands‑on leadership role, combining operational oversight with mentoring, coaching and practical support across the practice. The Operations Manager plays an important role in translating the ambitions of the partners into the daily functioning of the organisation.

Purpose of the role

The Operations Manager supports the effective organisation and delivery of operational services across the practice.

The Operations Manager provides leadership and support to departmental managers while helping ensure the practice operates as a cohesive organisation focused on delivering safe, responsive and patient‑centred care.

  • Experience working within a healthcare or service‑based operational environment
  • Experience managing or supporting teams and departmental leads
  • Strong organisational and leadership skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a busy operational environment
  • Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making skills
  • Confidence using organisational systems and digital tools
  • Experience working within general practice or primary care
  • Experience using SystmOne or similar clinical systems

Salary

£35,000 to £37,000 a year, dependant on experience
