Instrument Design Technology Limited (IDT) is a world-renowned specialist in the design and manufacture of precision-engineered X-ray optical instrumentation used in synchrotron light sources around the world.

Responsibilities

• Design complex precision components and assemblies from vacuum chambers to motion systems and thermal management components.
• Produce detailed 3D CAD models and manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks.
• Engineer designs for ultra-high-vacuum environments, thermal stability and fine motion accuracy.
• Work closely with in-house manufacturing and assembly teams to refine and prototype designs.
• Liaise with scientists, researchers and international customers to translate technical requirements into engineered solutions.
• Contribute to continuous improvement and innovation across product development.

What We’re Looking For / Qualifications

• Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Strong 3D CAD experience
• SolidWorks preferred, but any mainstream package considered.
• Knowledge of precision machining, fabrication, assemblies and DFM principles.
• Experience with vacuum systems, motion control, metrology or scientific instruments desirable but not essential.
• Practical mindset able to think from both a design and manufacturing perspective.
• Strong communicator who enjoys working on niche, technical projects.
