Mechanical Engineer

Location: Stroud

KO2’s client, a fast–growing and innovative technology company in Stroud, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to play a key role in the development of advanced, next–generation, electronic products. This is an exciting opportunity to join a collaborative engineering team working across the full product lifecycle in a dynamic, high–growth environment. The successful candidate will be required to go through SC Clearance, if you hold it already that is a bonus.

The Role

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will take ownership of mechanical design activities from initial concept through to production handover. You’ll work closely with electronics, software, and manufacturing engineers to develop robust, high–performance devices suited to real–world applications, with a strong focus on efficiency, size, and weight constraints.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead conceptual design activities, generating innovative mechanical solutions
  • Define device specifications in collaboration with cross–functional teams
  • Deliver detailed design using CAD, including assemblies and technical drawings
  • Develop, build, and test prototype units, iterating designs based on performance and feedback
  • Support design for manufacture (DFM) and transition to production, including supplier engagement
  • Ensure designs meet performance, reliability, and regulatory requirements
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes and product performance

Key Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Engineer within product development environments
  • Strong experience taking products from concept through to production
  • Expertise in low power, lightweight design, ideally for compact or portable devices
  • Solid understanding of materials selection, thermal management, and mechanical analysis
  • Experience with 3D CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, or similar)
  • Knowledge or exposure to optical engineering principles would be advantageous
  • Strong problem–solving skills and ability to work in a fast–paced, evolving environment
  • Ability to achieve SC clearance

Desirable Skills

  • Experience working with precision components or opto–mechanical systems
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes (injection moulding, machining, etc.)
  • Understanding of tolerance analysis and environmental testing
