Electrical Design Engineer
Location: Birmingham
Employment Type: Full-time
We’re working with a well‑established off‑site MEP specialist delivering innovative, prefabricated energy systems to clients across the UK and Europe. Their projects span commercial buildings, healthcare, education, and high‑rise residential – all designed with sustainability and efficiency in mind.
As an Electrical Design Engineer, you’ll help bring these projects to life by producing detailed, build‑ready designs that support low‑carbon infrastructure across a range of sectors.
What you’ll be doing:
- Designing electrical layouts including general power, lighting, BMS, CHP, and control systems
- Developing control panel schematics and operation descriptions
- Supporting commissioning teams during site integration and testing
- Producing documentation across all design phases – from concept to construction
- Conducting site surveys and integrating new systems with existing infrastructure
- Attending client and internal design meetings
- Ensuring compliance with relevant health, safety, and quality standards
- Collaborating with the in‑house BIM and contracts teams to streamline delivery
What we’re looking for:
- HNC/HND (or equivalent) in Electrical or Control Engineering
- At least 3 years’ experience in electrical building services design
- Proficiency in software such as Amtech, ElectricalOM, AutoCAD, or Revit
- Strong technical writing, communication, and coordination skills
- Knowledge of BMS, power systems, and commercial M&E standards
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple design tasks
Bonus experience (not essential):
- Previous work on prefabricated or modular energy systems
- Familiarity with sustainability standards or decarbonisation goals
- Prior exposure to commercial district heating or large‑scale energy centres
