About the Role
We are seeking a highly experienced senior rail architect to join our expanding team as an Associate. The base role and level of project experience is the same as that of a Senior Architect but with additional levels of project, team and performance management.
You will play a key role in leading and delivering both major and smaller rail and station projects from concept through to completion up and down the UK.
This is an opportunity to apply your rail design and technical expertise to complex, high‑profile projects, collaborating closely with Clients such as Network Rail, Transport for London (TfL), and London Underground (LUL), as well as contractors, consultants, and other stakeholders. An appetite to transfer your skills into power & energy, water and highways project environments would be beneficial.
You’ll be responsible for design leadership, project delivery, technical quality, and team coordination on station and infrastructure projects of national significance.
This is a London based opportunity, with a minimum of 4 day working in our central London offices very close to London Bridge Station. Some regular travel within the UK will be necessary.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the architectural design and delivery of major UK rail and station projects through all RIBA / ES stages.
- Manage project teams and coordinate multidisciplinary inputs, including structural, M&E, and landscape teams.
- Liaise directly with Clients and stakeholders (Network Rail, LUL, local authorities, contractors and others) to ensure design integrity and compliance.
- Oversee technical documentation, BIM coordination and quality assurance processes.
- Run the contractual and commercial aspects of projects.
- Contribute to practice-wide design leadership and mentoring of junior staff.
- Support business development, bid writing, and Client presentations.
- Support the practice Project Directors and provide the mentoring.
About You
- Qualified architect with ARB registration (or equivalent) with minimum 10 years UK project experience in the transport sector.
- Proven experience in rail and transport architecture, including delivery to completion of Category A to C UK rail station projects.
- Demonstration of designing and delivering station remodelling and congestion relief upgrades and Access for All and/or Step Free Access programmes.
- In-depth understanding of NTSN, DfT, Network Rail and LUL design technical standards, and approvals processes.
- Strong leadership ability and experience in leading and running project teams.
- Good communication, presentation and Client coordination skills.
- Excellent technical experience gained in complex transport environments.
- Strong design capability and a good eye for detail.
- Construction and site experience, working with and for contractors is vital.
- Proficiency in Bentley OpenBuildings Designer and Projectwise environments and NR/LU BIM standards and processes.
- A proactive, hands‑on approach and a passion for transport and infrastructure and public realm design.
