What You’ll Be Doing

• Managing and optimising SQL Server environments across on-prem and cloud platforms
• Investigating and resolving database performance bottlenecks
• Tuning queries, indexing strategies, and database structures for optimal performance
• Reviewing and improving server configurations, including memory, storage, and I/O performance
• Monitoring database health, availability, and reliability across production systems
• Supporting live environments with root-cause analysis, incident response, and long-term remediation
• Collaborating with internal teams and external vendors on database-related initiatives

First 3 Months Focus

• Assess current SQL Server estate, including configurations, workloads, and dependencies
• Identify and prioritise performance bottlenecks across databases, queries, and infrastructure
• Analyse high-impact queries and implement performance tuning strategies
• Review and optimise indexing, execution plans, and maintenance routines
• Provide clear recommendations to improve performance, stability, and scalability
• Support capacity planning, monitoring improvements, and performance testing

What We’re Looking For

• Strong experience as a SQL Server DBA in complex, high-availability environments
• Deep expertise in SQL Server performance tuning and optimisation
• Solid understanding of database architecture, indexing, and query execution plans
• Experience managing production environments, including backup, recovery, and HA/DR
• Exposure to cloud platforms (e.g. Azure, AWS) is desirable
• Ability to work autonomously and deliver measurable performance improvements

• Location: Hybrid (North London)
• Contract: £550–£620 (Inside IR35)
• Length: 3 months initially, with view to extend
