We have a unique opportunity within our Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Operations Team for a talented and ambitious individual to come and join our mission to protect the Society against Economic Crime, leading our Business and Commercial relationships AML Teams.
The Economic Crime department is responsible for protecting Nationwide and its members from all types of financial crime, including money laundering, terrorist financing, sanctions, bribery and corruption.

For this job you’ll spend at least two days per week, or if part time you’ll spend 40% of your working time, based at either our Swindon or Northampton office. What you’ll be doing
You’ll lead a group of managers who look after teams responsible for customer checks, deeper investigations, and monitoring activity across our business and commercial members. Each day you’ll make sure procedures, processes, and service levels are working as they should, stepping in to solve problems and remove barriers so the teams can focus on keeping the Society safe. You’ll support and guide a team of managers, helping them develop their teams and keep risks well controlled. You’ll also work closely with our external partner, making sure their work meets our standards and supports our goals. Whatever your day brings, you’ll play a key part in protecting our members and reducing financial crime across the Society.
About you
- Strong leadership experience, including managing multiple teams and their managers, setting goals, developing people, and supporting performance
- A background in financial crime, risk, compliance or audit within financial services, with an understanding of Nationwide’s products, services, and core systems
- Deep understanding of financial crime legislation, regulatory expectations and industry guidance
- Knowledge of customer due diligence, enhanced due diligence and financial crime risks across business and commercial relationships, with experience managing these through strong controls
- Confident in identifying and managing operational risks, recommending effective controls, and ensuring the operation stays compliant
- The ability to inspire, influence, and engage others, with excellent communication skills when working with colleagues at all levels
- Skilled in writing clear, comprehensive reports and papers for a range of audiences across the Society
- Holding, or working towards, a recognised financial crime qualification, such as ICA (Anti ‑ Money Laundering, Financial Crime Prevention, or Risk Management) or ACAMS (Certified Anti ‑ Money Laundering Specialist)
