Job Description:

Regionally, the Cheshire and Merseyside Cancer Alliance (CMCA) leads the delivery of the National Cancer Plan for England’s ambitions for cancer across our local system with the aim of improving outcomes for patients and improving performance against key operational standards.

The Cancer Assistant Project Manager will support the delivery of a portfolio of cancer transformation and improvement projects across the Trust. The post holder will contribute to the development and delivery of projects aligned with CMCA and national NHS priorities and Trust objectives. The role will require close collaboration with clinical, operational and corporate colleagues across the organisation, and may lead on discrete projects or individual workstreams under the guidance of the Cancer Project Manager and wider Cancer Services Team.

The role will be based at Clatterbridge Hospital but will involve cross‑site working between Clatterbridge Hospital and Arrowe Park Hospital. The working pattern is Monday to Friday, 7½ hours per day, 8:30am to 4:30pm. Applicants should obtain line‑manager approval before applying for the role. Secondments will be considered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Planning and delivering cancer service improvement and transformation projects aligned to Trust and national priorities.
  • Contributing to pathway optimisation and service redesign initiatives aimed at improving patient outcomes, patient experience, quality and safety, while supporting efficient and sustainable service delivery.
  • Leading discrete projects or individual workstreams under the guidance of the Cancer Services Team, taking ownership for delivery against agreed objectives, timelines and governance arrangements.
  • Working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders across clinical, operational and corporate teams to support the successful implementation of improvement initiatives.
  • Facilitating meetings, workshops and stakeholder engagement activities to support project delivery and service improvement.
  • Monitoring project progress and supporting the identification and resolution of risks, issues and barriers to delivery.
  • Gathering, analysing and interpreting information to support decision making, track project performance and identify opportunities for improvement and efficiency.
