About the Role

We are looking for a skilled and experienced Nursery Room Leader or Manager to lead our Catford Nursery team. The nursery offers state‑of‑the‑art facilities, bright and spacious indoor rooms and fabulous outdoor areas. The role is full‑time (40 hours per week), with 4 or 5 days per week, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm.

Welcome Bonus

£1,000 welcome bonus paid in two instalments: £500 on the first salary payment after joining; £500 upon completion of probation (6 months, unless extended). The bonus is subject to normal tax and NI deductions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and motivate a team of nursery practitioners.
  • Delegate responsibilities, support staff in delivering high‑quality care, and conduct regular team meetings.
  • Provide supervision, mentoring, and coaching for junior staff, students, and apprentices.
  • Ensure policies, procedures, and standards are consistently followed.
  • Oversee the delivery of the EYFS framework and monitor children’s development.
  • Maintain high standards of safeguarding, welfare, and behaviour management.
  • Ensure a safe, secure, and clean environment; carry out risk assessments and safety checks.
  • Build positive relationships with parents and carers through communication, handovers, and meetings.
  • Manage the room’s daily routines, staffing levels, and rotas; support the manager in inspections and audits.
  • Maintain accurate records including attendance, incidents, and health checks.
  • Keep up to date with best practices, statutory requirements, and company policies; reflect on practice and encourage team training.

Qualifications & Experience

  • At least 1 year’s experience in a Nursery Room Leader role or equivalent.
  • Level 3 or above qualification in Early Years child‑care.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of the EYFS & statutory framework.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to use initiative and demonstrate passion in daily interactions with children.

  • Ofsted Standards: Familiarity with inspection frameworks.
  • Planning & Curriculum Delivery: Plan inclusive, stimulating activities that meet individual learning goals.
  • Key Person Approach: Build strong bonds with children and families.
  • Inclusive Practice: Support children with additional needs, EAL learners, and diverse backgrounds.
  • Behaviour Management: Implement positive behaviour strategies.
  • Mentoring & Development: Support professional growth of team members.
