ROLE: Air Hygiene & Fire Damper Engineer

HOURS: 40 hours per week (variable shifts as required)

LOCATION: UK wide (London, Midlands, Leeds (Preferred location))

Responsibilities

  • Working as part of a specialised delivery team who aim to provide excellent levels of service.
  • Working 40 hours per week, including variable shift patterns as required.
  • Flexible approach to working (overtime/shift/weekend work) depending on client needs.
  • Maintain a positive “can‑do” attitude with problem‑solving ability.
  • Act as an ambassador for Mitie Water & Air.
  • Behaviours – professional, well‑mannered and polite at all times.
  • Follow instructions safely (method statements and risk assessments).
  • Be Health & Safety aware, including awareness of surroundings and tasks.
  • Complete servicing work and associated reporting diligently and on time.
  • Communicate clearly and keep your line manager updated.
  • Strong team player, self‑motivated and proactive to an exacting standard.
  • Honest, organised, trustworthy, and presentable to the client.
  • Willingness to undertake training and role‑related development.
  • Use of PC, PDA, tablet, hand tools, chemicals, access equipment and PPE.
  • Occasional working away from home, including overnight stays.
  • Work at height using access equipment; must be physically fit.

Main Duties

  • Represent Mitie Air, carrying out service work as detailed by your manager/supervisor.
  • Complete servicing and technical reports in both manual and electronic formats.
  • Perform analytical surveys of ventilation systems prior to work.
  • Carry out allocated service or remedial work within agreed timeframes.
  • Adhere to client and Mitie Health & Safety policies, quality procedures, and site access requirements.
  • Follow relevant industry guidelines and bespoke customer specifications.
  • Be available for work outside normal hours (8 hours in any 24‑hour period, Mon–Fri).
  • Support weekend work when required.
  • Be flexible in supporting the team and wider department.

Ventilation Hygiene Ducting Inspections and Cleans

  • Complete ductwork cleaning tasks within a team environment.
  • Inspection and assessment experience beneficial.
  • Kitchen extract cleaning (TR/19).
  • Supply and extract ventilation cleaning (TR/19).
  • Use of cleaning fluids, brushes, scrapers and sprays.

Fire Damper Testing

  • Testing in accordance with BS:9999 & RRFSO 2005.
  • Understanding compartmentalisation strategy beneficial.
  • Manually test inline fire damper operation.
  • Work above ceilings, removing tiles and hatches to access dampers.
  • Record damper condition and location accurately for reports.

Air Quality Tasks

  • Collection of air quality data and samples.
  • Completion of air quality reports.
  • LEV experience beneficial (not essential).
  • Understand HSE and CIBSE guidelines regarding workplace exposure limits.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Able to work individually or as part of a team.
  • Ability and knowledge to use computers/PDA’s.
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Office programmes.
  • Full driving licence with at least 12 months’ experience.
  • No more than 6 current/pending points and no bans within the last 5 years.
