Senior Staff Nurse Band 6, 37.5 hours per week
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team in Dermatology. We are a specialist surgical department caring for patients with a variety of Dermatology conditions. You will be welcomed into a friendly team with a variety of tasks to fill your day.
You will be expected to provide effective clinical leadership to facilitate the delivery of patient care without supervision. Ensure that the highest standard of care is delivered to patients in the Dermatology department providing continuing assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of nursing care. Provide expert nursing advice to the MDT, and co‑coordinate a training programme for nursing staff.
This job is based at Hilltop Heights but will require support across the West Cumberland Hospital dermatology team also by effectively prioritising the demand.
Main duties of the job
- Manage and provide all aspects of patient care. Maintain the privacy and dignity of all patients and adhere to trust and department policies.
- Act in accordance with the NMC code of professional conduct and demonstrate trust core values and behaviours.
- Demonstrate practice based on current advances in nursing practice and research.
- Develop and establish evidence‑based practice that contributes to the development and evaluation of nursing procedures in the unit.
- Undertake extended role skills as required, e.g. administration of medication, venepuncture, light therapy, etc.
- Direct patient care by assessing, analysing patient data obtained from observations, blood results, and monitoring equipment and acting on those accordingly. Recognise the deteriorating patient and escalating to clinicians.
- Advise and recommend nursing interventions and changes to patient care following assessment.
- Comply with infection prevention and control procedures at all times.

Qualifications
- Registered nurse with current registration
- Management / leadership certificate or equivalent experience
- Recognised teaching qualification and proven ability to provide clinical education
- Postgraduate certificate in management or equivalent
- Further relevant postgraduate development or equivalent
- Post‑registration certificate in clinical speciality or equivalent
Knowledge and Experience
- Post‑registration patient care
- Ability to deal with a continually changing workload

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service. The cost of the DBS must be met by the successful candidate(s) through salary deduction. Standard Check: £21.50 + Administration cost of £6.50 = £28.00.
