Introduction
Are you a recently completed Occupational Therapist looking to embark on a rewarding career, where you are supported in everything you do? If so, join The Spinney in Atherton on a fixed‑term contract to cover maternity leave for 6‑9 months. This post is a part‑time position for 30 hours per week.
Working alongside a dedicated team, you will work at medium and low secure services providing specialist treatment programmes for service users who have been detained under the Mental Health Act (1983) and have a history of offending behaviour.

What You’ll Do
Under supervision, you will be responsible for planning and facilitating evidence‑based group and individual programmes, and for creating individual rapport with service users to empower recovery.
As an Occupational Therapist you will be:
- Providing comprehensive OT assessments.
- Planning and reviewing OT treatment programmes under supervision.
- Identifying and actioning referrals both in‑house (including support staff) and to external agencies.
- Supporting the planning, evaluation, and audit of practices, clinical pathways and protocols at The Spinney.
- Ensuring that contemporaneous, written and electronic records and activity data are maintained following professional and service standards.
To be successful in this role, you’ll need:
- A Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy.
- UK HCPC registration or applied for.
- Evidence of ability to research, plan, implement and evaluate a project for specific groups.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Location
The Spinney – Everest Road, Atherton, Manchester, M46 9NT. The service offers a range of care settings for male patients with personality disorder and/or mental illness, including medium, low secure and rehabilitation wards, and a psychiatric intensive care unit (PICU), all set within an 11‑acre site with extensive woodland and landscaped areas.
