Role
We have an exciting new opportunity for a Risk and Controls Analyst to be responsible for supporting the Group Head of Controls in identifying, assessing, and managing risks across key business processes. We are looking for a candidate who has been working in a similar role in financial services, experience in insurance would be a plus.
Description
As a Risk and Controls Analyst you will be responsible for supporting the Group Head of Controls in identifying, assessing, and managing risks across key business processes. This role plays a critical part in strengthening the control environment, ensuring compliance with regulatory expectations (FCA, PRA, Lloyd’s of London), and supporting the delivery of insights to senior management.
The risk and controls analyst will work closely with business teams to monitor controls, support risk reports, within the Enterprise Risk and Control Management Framework, contribute to the Own Risk & Solvency Assessment (ORSA), etc.
Key tasks will be to:
- Support the Group Head of Controls in the day-to-day management of the controls framework, including helping the business to identify and design effective and efficient controls.
- Develop and maintain associated control testing plans and conduct independent control tests and thematic reviews.
- Support the execution of the Risk & Control Self‑Assessment (RCSA) process, including risk identification, assessment, and control evaluation.
- Prepare summary reporting on controls status for management, highlighting key themes, deficiencies, and actions.
- Identify where controls are missing or poorly designed, determine where they can be improved to enhance effectiveness and/or efficiency, and escalate issues as appropriate.
- Assist with the effective operation of the Atrium risk governance processes including production of meeting papers and attending committees and taking minutes.
- Support wider Risk and Control projects and deliverables as required.
- Support the Risk Management team in ensuring Lloyd’s Principles for doing business are adhered to.
- Liaise with the wider business to help further embed a positive risk culture.
Required skills
Knowledge
- Experience in risk management, internal controls, or internal audit within financial services (banking, insurance, asset management, etc.) with a desire and passion to grow in the role.
- Experience of working in Insurance and an understanding of the Lloyd’s of London Market would be desirable.
Skills
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and identify trends.
- Good knowledge of Operational Risk and what makes an effective control environment.
- Excellent IT skills including experience of using Microsoft Office to produce reports and analyse data.
Other
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams.
- Critical thinking and problem solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Desire to keep acquiring and developing skills and learn from others.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Business, Risk Management, or a related discipline (or equivalent professional experience).
