Role: Family Paralegal – Manchester
Leading law firm looking to recruit dedicated Family Paralegals for a high-level permanent position.
Family & Children Department Background
Our client’s Family & Children department is ranked and recognised by The Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners for family and matrimonial work, providing confidential advice and effective representation. The team includes practitioners who have achieved the Law Society’s Children Law and Family Law Advanced accreditations, providing advocacy in all court proceedings, ensuring clients receive consistent and professional service, as well as a high degree of continuity.
In addition, our client’s Family department is experienced in assisting high net worth individuals with divorcemeat matters with specialist divorce solicitors with expertise in domestic abuse, adoption, child abduction, protective steps orders, specific issues orders, injunctions, spousal and child maintenance, properties, pensions and freezing injunctions.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Report directly to Department Director
- Professional pro‑active approach, strong client care skills and a sensitive and sympathetic understanding of clients’ needs
- Assist with case work, including dealing with a range of Family and Child Care matters (LAA funded and private client work) as well as undertaking your own advocacy
- Attend to clients, take instructions and prepare cases
- Deal with correspondence
- Prepare and manage funding applications to the Legal Aid Agency
- Prepare draft documents, including witness statements and process evidence
- Attend conferences and court
- Maintain accurate time‑costing procedures
- Implement any recommendations made by your supervisor following monthly file reviews, ensuring that these are dealt with promptly
- Ensure compliance with file management
Key Skills Required
- Demonstrate passion and legal experience in a broad range of Family & Children Law
- A strong academic background with a Law degree
- Clear understanding and application of Family & Children Law
- Business acumen and the ability to market the company
- Excellent communication skills to work effectively with all types of people
- Excellent analytical and organisational skills and ability to use own initiative but know when to seek guidance
- Excellent IT skills – familiar with Microsoft Office applications and document management skills
