Overview
AtkinsRéalis Building Design Practice is looking to appoint a Fire Engineer for a forward‑thinking multi‑sector practice. We work as part of a national practice delivering fire engineering design solutions to clients across sectors including Cities & Development, Commercial, Energy, Residential and Transportation.
There is flexibility around the role location with a focus on Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Epsom, Glasgow, London or Derby.
Your role
- Work in a range of sectors from residential buildings through to rail transportation or new energy facilities.
- Manage multiple engineering projects from inception to delivery in support of fire safety standards and codes while also supporting junior team members.
- Support the delivery of project work and keep track of evolving project milestones and budgets.
- Keep up to date with regulations and legislation.
- Support the development of fire strategies.
- Assess fire related risks in projects and work collaboratively to mitigate where possible.
- Review and comment on the quality of fire safety related installations.
- Undertake tenders for new work and develop client relationships to identify potential work opportunities.
- Prepare reports, take part in design team meetings, and liaise with client representatives as required.
- Support junior team members and act as technical reviewer on project submissions.
About You
- Engineering degree, preferably in fire engineering or a post‑graduate qualification (other backgrounds are considered).
- 10+ years in fire engineering roles, including roles outside of consultancy.
- Strong experience with multiple fire standards such as BS9999, NFPA 130, BS9992, EN45545.
- Demonstrated record of successfully delivering fire strategies.
- Fire modelling experience is beneficial.
- Working towards chartered fire engineer status.
- Ability to obtain security clearance, ideally without caveats.
- Flexible approach to the working environment and willingness to travel.
- Good commercial awareness and customer‑focused mindset.
- Ability to collate information and produce clear, structured report writing.

Security clearance
This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. The vetting process is delivered by United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV) and may require proof of residency in the UK for five years or longer.
