Band 7 Senior Sister/Charge Nurse – Paeds ED

Contract type: Permanent

Working hours: Part time – 20 hours per week

Location: Across sites – Town Romford

Annual salary: £55,524 – £62,652 (pro‑rata for part time)

On this role you will provide high‑quality, evidence‑based, patient‑centred care in our Children’s Emergency Department and support the development and education of staff. You will work across Queen’s Hospital in Romford and King George Hospital in Goodmayes.

Main duties of the job

  • Support the Matron and Senior Multi‑Disciplinary Team to ensure high‑quality, patient‑focused care.
  • Actively participate in the day‑to‑day clinical and operational management of the department.
  • Act as a clinical leader and role model while providing direct quality patient care and sharing expertise with colleagues.
  • Work within the CED team on professional nursing issues and clinical governance matters.
  • Work flexibly to achieve key responsibilities of the post.
  • Guide the activity of nursing, medical and other staff to ensure rapid assessment, treatment and discharge of children and young people.
  • Participate in educational and training programmes for junior team members, including acting as a preceptor to newly qualified nurses.
  • Lead a team of nurses with line management responsibilities.
  • Collaborate on projects and shared learning with colleagues within the Children’s Directorate.
  • Take a leadership role for an aspect of care and represent the department in Trust‑wide forums, contributing to and leading quality improvement projects.

Person specification

Education / Qualifications

  • Post‑graduate course in Children’s Emergency Nursing or equivalent.

Experience and Knowledge

  • Substantial ED experience at Band 6.
  • Experience of change management in a working environment.
