Main duties of the job
This 10 PA locum appointment for a Consultant Anaesthetist with a special interest in Paediatric Cardiac Anaesthesia will start as soon as possible and last for six months. The post will provide 10 PAs to support the paediatric cardiac anaesthetic team at Leeds Children’s Hospital (LGI site). It will also involve participation in the undergraduate teaching programme, School of Medicine, University of Leeds.
Responsibilities
- Provide anaesthesia for children undergoing cardiac surgery and investigations such as cardiac catheterisation and MRI.
- Supervise patients following anaesthesia.
- Contribute to specialist multi‑disciplinary team meetings.
- Participate in and progress Clinical Governance.
- Support service plans for the specialty, taking account of changes in clinical practice and new technologies.
- Contribute to research, teaching and new developments within the Trust.
- Work with consultant colleagues to deliver a comprehensive anaesthetic service.
- Develop and consolidate expertise in paediatric cardiac anaesthesia.
- Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, including the resident doctors programme in the Yorkshire Deanery.
Qualifications
- Accreditation in the FRCA (Royal College of Anaesthetists) or equivalent; full registration with the GMC.
- On the Specialist Register or within six months of admission for trainees in the UK.
- At least 12 months advanced training in paediatric cardiac anaesthesia.
- Strong communication, team‑working skills and commitment to teaching and service development.
