Salary: £113,565 – £150,569 per annum

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have access to secretarial support from a team of medical secretaries and administrative assistants. Along with radiology including MRI, CT and ultrasound service. The service also has access to pathology services. The balance between Direct Clinical Care (DCC) activities and Supporting Programmed Activities (SPA) will be agreed with the candidate as part of the initial job planning process. For a full time post it is anticipated that 8.0 programmed activities (PA) will be for DCC, and 2.0 PAs for SPA.

Direct Clinical Care: (includes clinical activity, clinically related activity, predictable & unpredictable emergency work) SPA 2.00: (includes CPD, audit, teaching & research and service development).

On Call Duties

The post-holder will participate in the general medical on call rota which is currently 1 in 20. This includes a mid-take (5-8pm) and a morning post take ward round. The majority of the post take ward round is conducted by the acute medical and ward-based teams.

The job plan on commencement will be approximately 10 programmed activities as set out above. There is also an opportunity to discuss an honorary contract with Warwick Medical School for teaching and research.

Job responsibilities

  • This is a full-time post for a Consultant Diabetes & Endocrine (10.0 PA).
  • The appointee will work in collaboration with the other Diabetes and Endocrine Consultants, other Specialist Consultants, Doctors in Training, Diabetes Specialist Nurses, Dietitians, and Podiatrists in the Trust.
  • This will be delivering outpatient and inpatient diabetes and endocrine services to the local population serviced by the George Eliot Hospital Trust, to share facilities and provide continuity to patients and staff and deliver high standards of care. Specific duties will include up to five outpatient clinics per week.

Person Specification

Qualification and Professional Training

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • MRCP Intercollegiate or equivalent
  • Entry on GMC Specialist Register via CCT in Diabetes and Endocrinology and General Internal Medicine(GIM) – CESR or European Community Rights

Desirable

  • An appropriate higher degree (MD, PhD or equivalent)

Academic Achievements

Essential

  • Able to demonstrate successful participation in audit
  • Integrated, designed and completed audit projects and protocols

Desirable

  • Evidence of completed and published research
  • Experience of having supervised and supported research students

Experience and Knowledge

Essential

  • Thorough & broad training in adult Diabetes & general Endocrinology
  • Teaching and commitment to education post- and under- graduate levels

Desirable

  • Higher qualification in education

  • Effective written (including record keeping) and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to use tact, diplomacy, negotiation and persuasion as well as authority
