Human Factors Consultant (All Levels)
WSP is looking for a Human Factors Consultant for the UK & Ireland. This role supports rail projects across a range of stages, from concept through to operation, bringing human‑centred design, ergonomics, and usability expertise to our teams.
Responsibilities
- Undertake usability evaluations in line with Human Factors standards for equipment, layout and HMIs to demonstrate systems support operators to perform tasks efficiently.
- Conduct project ergonomics surveys, including observing current railway signalling tasks, level crossing control, measuring operational workload, impact assessments, training needs analysis and presenting data to inform design activities.
- Produce Concepts of Operations to support new or modified station/depot design, conduct access & maintenance assessments, room layout and workstation design including control room design.
- Work with project teams to assess accessibility and design for inclusion.
- Elicit ergonomics requirements and collaborate with teams to deliver user needs.
- Provide specialist ergonomic assessments (task analysis, situation awareness, workload), operational concepts and plans, maintenance concepts and plans, customer experience strategies, staff recruitment and training strategies.
- Collaborate within multi‑discipline project teams and support RAG team‑led work.
Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
- Experience applying ergonomics techniques and processes in the rail industry.
- Knowledge of railway industry, infrastructure and operational roles.
- Previous human factors experience.
- Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (preferably working towards chartership).
- Experience managing and growing a team (if applicable).
