ROLE: Shift Mechanical Engineer

HOURS: 40 hours per week

LOCATION: Ware, Hertfordshire

SHIFT PATTERN: 7am to 3:30pm and 12.30pm to 9pm

We’re looking for a Shift Mechanical Engineer who will provide a comprehensive engineering service to the site, supporting operational, statutory, and regulatory compliance while ensuring maximum availability of engineering equipment.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Provide a comprehensive engineering service to the site, ensuring compliance with Mitie Quality, Environmental, Health & Safety procedures, and the Company IMS.
  • Maintain maximum equipment availability through safe, efficient planned maintenance, fault resolution, and technical support for projects, commissioning, and hand‑over activities.
  • Responsible for the service, maintenance, and repairs on installations such as ventilation systems – (AHU, Intake / extract), heating and cooling systems (thermal wheels, FCU’s etc.) and water system assets, such as booster sets, chlorifiers, water heaters etc.
  • Complete accurate documentation (work logs, asset history, permits-to-work) and liaise with planning teams to align activity with GxP guidelines, SOPs, PPM schedules, KPIs, and site requirements.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to undertake all facets of maintenance and installation within the scope of the contract.
  • A recognised trade training scheme (desired) and strong competency across mechanical and associated electrical resets.
  • NVQ Level 2 in Mechanical Engineering
  • IOSH Working Safely, IPAF, Asbestos Awareness, and relevant technical certifications (e.g., C&G Competent Person Mechanical & Pressure Systems, Level 3 NVQ Heating & Ventilation, Level 2 H&V Industrial & Commercial Installations).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong customer care and relationship‑building skills.
  • Competent with Microsoft Office, CAFM systems, BMS operation, RAMS production, and permit‑to‑work processes.
