Aboutthe Team

TheChief Secretary of the Treasury (CST) has outlined the government’sambition to rewire the state – see Institute forGovernment speech. Central to this vision is morecollaboration and transparency between departments and the centreof government on spending, requiring a greater level ofsharing and harmonising of key data sets (Finance, Outcome &Performancedata). 

To meetthe spending challenges of the future, HM Treasury is committedto developing an integrated datasolution which will enable a single version of the truthwhich provides real-time, standardised data onfinance, outcomes and performance. This will allow forgreater autonomy for departments, more open conversations betweendepartments and HMT and more effective, data-driven decisionmaking, ultimately leading to better outcomes for thepublic.

The Finance and Performance DataIntegration Service (FPDIS) is a key part of the Government’sambition to rewire the state. The new compact between departmentand the centre requires more and better data, and thisprogramme is the means by which the Treasury will getthat data. 

The teamis building and every role will bring vital perspectivesand insight to the programme. We are currently developing ourapproach, business case and early thinking aboutwhat the future could look like. You would be joining us at thestart of an excitingjourney.

Aboutthe Job

The key responsibilitiesof the post holders willbe:

TechnicalLeadership

· Leadthe end-to-end technical design, development, and implementation ofAI solutions. This would involve development and maintenance ofanalytic products in our preferred tech stack (Python, Plotly Dashand Azure) and experimentation with and use of otherapplications.

· Providetechnical guidance and mentoring to data engineers, analysts andnon-technical staff working on the broader FPDISprogramme.

· DocumentAI architectures, models, and agent behaviours to ensuretransparency, governance, and continuousimprovement.

SolutionDesign &Delivery

· Leadtechnical delivery of an experimental Agile project to extractfinance and performance data from PDFs and otherdocuments.

· Identifyopportunities to apply AI to optimise public spending businessprocesses, improve user experiences and deliver publicvalue.

· IntegrateAI capabilities with enterprise platforms and services, includinglow-code environments, APIs, and data pipelines, and cloud-baseddata integrationplatforms.

TechnologyEvaluation

· Assessand select appropriate AI models, platforms, and tools (e.g.OpenAI, CopilotStudio).

· Staycurrent with emerging AI technologies, particularly developments inagent-based systems, and evaluate their applicability toFPDIS.

Collaboration& PartnerEngagement

· Workclosely with partners to translate business needs into AI-enabledsolutions, incorporating agent-based architectures whereappropriate.

· Supportthe training and upskilling of HMT staff in AI literacy,responsible use of intelligent systems, and adoption of AI-enabledtools.

Governance&Compliance

· Ensureall AI solutions are ethical, secure, and aligned with HMT’sstrategic objectives and regulatory obligations, and wider DSITguidance.
