Job Description:

SLR provides transport planning advice to clients across sectors including residential, retail and logistics. We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Transport Planning professional to join at Associate Director level, based in our Leeds office. This role involves project delivery, client and team management, and the application of transport planning best practice across a range of projects in the UK.

Roles and responsibilities

This Associate Director will manage and deliver a wide range of transport planning projects, providing high‑quality advice, leading complex projects, and nurturing client relationships.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Manage client relationships and secure work.
  • Negotiate fee proposals.
  • Manage projects in line with client expectations and internal priorities.
  • Control project finances.
  • Communicate with colleagues and clients.
  • Keep up with technical, legal and policy changes.
  • Develop technical and commercial skills of team members.
  • Use initiative to develop solutions.
  • Maintain continuous professional development.
  • Provide guidance on quality matters and technical issues; add value to all projects.

Qualifications and experience

  • A degree in a related subject.
  • Significant experience preparing Transport Statements, Assessments and related documents.
  • Ability to set up and run PICADY’s and ARCADYS (Junctions 11); experience with LINSIG.
  • Understanding of micro‑simulation and strategic model principles.
  • Knowledge of design standards (DMRB, MfS) and their application.
  • Experience developing access, parking and sustainable transport strategies.
  • Experience in preparing fee proposals and winning work independently.
  • Knowledge of S106, S278 agreements and Traffic Regulation Orders.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to manage a wide complex workload.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and initiative.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with clients, colleagues and stakeholders.
