Building Control Manager (Interim – 6 Months)

Stratford-upon-Avon | Hybrid Working Local Authority | Development Services⏱️ 37 hours per week

Are you an experienced Building Control Manager ready to take on a key leadership role within a forward-thinking local authority? We’re supporting a council in the search for a highly capable Building Control Manager to lead and manage their statutory Building Control function. This is a fantastic opportunity for an established Building Control Manager to drive service excellence, lead high-performing teams, and play a pivotal role in delivering safe, compliant, and customer-focused development across the district.

The Role

As Building Control Manager, you will take full operational responsibility for the Building Control service, overseeing both fee-earning and non-fee-earning functions. You’ll sit on the Senior Leadership Team within Development Services, contributing to strategic direction, service improvement, and organisational performance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Building Control Team, ensuring compliance with legislation and best practice.
  • Oversee key functions including dangerous structures, demolitions, and street naming & numbering.
  • Drive performance, service standards, and continuous improvement across the service.
  • Provide expert advice to senior stakeholders, elected members, and internal teams.
  • Ensure compliance with the Building Safety Act and associated regulations.
  • Manage budgets, income streams, and resource allocation effectively.
  • Champion a customer-focused, high-performance culture.

About You

We’re looking for a proactive and strategic leader with a strong background in Building Control.

Qualifications

  • Registration as a Class 4 Technical Manager and Class 2 Building Inspector (minimum 2B-F).
  • Chartered membership of a relevant professional body.
  • Strong knowledge of Building Control legislation, policy, and practice.
  • Proven leadership experience, with the ability to motivate and develop teams.
  • Experience delivering service improvements and managing change.
  • A track record of managing budgets and driving performance.
