Purpose of the Role
The Surgical Dental Nurse plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth delivery of surgical procedures, providing chairside support, maintaining high standards of infection control, and ensuring patient safety and comfort at all times.
Key responsibilities
- Assist chairside during surgical procedures, ensuring patient care and specialist support.
- Maintain aseptic techniques, infection control, and surgical safety protocols.
- Manage implant stock and forecast upcoming surgical needs.
- Operate digital scanning technologies (iMetric, photogrammetry).
- Provide accurate and timely surgical documentation.
- Ensure all surgical equipment is cleaned, sterilized, and ready for use.
- Support sedation procedures with high standards of patient care.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (Adult Nursing or equivalent)
- Active registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
- Minimum 1 year of experience in dental nursing
- Prior experience with surgical procedures and implants strongly preferred
Knowledge & skills
- Implant procedures (single and full arch)
- Digital workflows (iMetric scanning, photogrammetry – training can be provided)
- Infection control and aseptic protocols
- Patient care under sedation
- Familiarity with Exact or Dentally software (desirable, training provided)
- Strong organizational skills and adaptability
