Position

Staff Nurse, Theatre/ Day Unit – Band 5 (20 hours a week)

Main Duties

  • Work mainly in theatre, with rotational duties in the Day Unit.
  • Perform scrub duties in theatre.
  • Develop new skills and competencies.
  • Cover 24‑hour on‑call emergencies.
  • Attend and provide evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Manage own workload efficiently and timely.
  • Enter data accurately in the Trak/H‑Trak system.
  • Accept link role responsibilities.
  • Instill eye drops pre‑operatively and intra‑operatively.

Job Responsibilities

  • Prepare operating rooms and verify equipment and machines.
  • Ensure sterility and condition of instruments.
  • Participate in WHO team briefing.
  • Assist surgeons during procedures.
  • Account for all equipment after operation.
  • Accurately document and chart procedures.
  • Enter details on Trak/H‑Trak and Medisoft.
  • Conduct final assessment and provide post‑operative instructions.
  • Clean theatres at the end of the day using the cleaning checklist.
  • Admit and discharge patients for surgery.

Qualifications

  • Registered Adult Nurse with NMC pin.
  • Teaching and Assessing course.
  • Ophthalmology course.

Experience

  • Appropriate experience in a clinical/hospital setting.
  • Current or recent experience performing scrub duties.
  • Experience covering 24‑hour on‑call duties.
  • Experience working in a Day Unit setting.

Knowledge / Skills

  • Knowledge of Trak computer system or similar.
  • Ability to manage workload and work well within a team.
  • Willingness to develop new skills and competencies.
  • Good verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, be well‑organised, and adopt a mature and flexible approach to problem solving.

Remuneration
