Cardiac Cath Labs Day Ward and Recovery Staff Nurse
A Band 5 RN who will join our team to work in the Cardiac Cath Labs, Day Ward and Recovery, including night shifts in the Cardiac Day Ward.
When you join our team, you will be based at Hammersmith Hospital, renowned for its strong research connections and being a regional specialist heart attack centre. The 6 cardiac Cath labs in Hammersmith Hospital runs a service running Monday to Saturday, providing a variety of procedures from simple diagnostics and treatments i.e., coronary angiogram, angioplasty and device implants to more complex Interventional, EP and Structural procedures i.e., PCI of CTO, Ablations and Device Extractions, TAVIs, Mitral and Tricuspid Clips/TEER.
We aim to build a flexible workforce, where you will rotate between the Cath lab, day ward, and recovery areas. You will be supported by dedicated mentors, a visible Cath lab leadership team, and a Clinical Practice Educator to help you achieve essential skills and competencies to ensure you succeed within your role. We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to join our growing nursing workforce due to service expansion. We are expanding into 6 Cath labs, 8 day case beds, 6 radial chairs, and 4 recovery beds.
Main duties of the job
- Carry out planned care for a group of patients with support from senior staff
- Ensure the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidence based, individualised patient care
- To perform safe effective care for patients requiring advanced clinical skills
- To provide a safe patient environment at all times.
- Recognise when changes in patients condition occur and take appropriate action including reporting to the nurse in charge.
- Assist in carrying out extended roles under supervision to ensure best clinical practice, this includes: – acting as a scrub or circulating nurse to assist the doctor during invasive cardiac procedures, which include coronary angiography, pacemaker implant, PCI, TAVI, CTO, Rotablation, ASD/PFO closures, ablation and other complex cardiac invasive procedures.
- Able to perform venepuncture and cannulation following appropriate training.
- Assist in the safe transfer of critically ill patients.
- On call commitment as required following training and preparation.
- Assist and advise support staff in the delivery of patient care.
- Able to remove both venous and arterial sheaths following appropriate training and supervision.

Person Specification
Education
- Registered Nurse with acute nursing experience
- Evidence of post registration Level 2 or 3 care provision
- Post registration cardiac course
Skills
- Willingness to develop teaching skills
- Ability to solve problems and use initiative
- Competency in medication administration including IV drug administration
- Knowledge of the NMC Code of Conduct
- Ability to cannulate and perform venepuncture
- ILS/ALS
- IV Therapy Passport
Experience
- Experience working in cardiology or cardiac patient care environment
- 1 year post graduation working experiencePrevious experience of cardiac cath labs or interventional radiography speciality
- Previous experience in recovery
