SHS Family Support Practitioner (School-Based)

Location: St Paul’s Trust School (Secondary) – Birmingham B12 8NJ

Hours: 5 days per week, term-time only – 35 hours per week plus inset days

Salary: £22,274 – £24,796 per annum (This role is term-time only; the salary is in line with working weeks)

  1. 1st Stage Interview: (online interview) 3 July 2026
  2. 2nd Stage interviews: (in person at the setting) Wednesday, 8 July to Friday, 10 July 2026.

This is a permanent position

As the Family Support Practitioner, you will be based at the setting and work in close partnership with school staff to deliver a programme of casework to promote and improve educational outcomes for the children and their families. You will focus your support to help improve attendance, punctuality and engagement in learning.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver a programme of casework to promote and improve educational outcomes for children and their families.
  • Support improvement of attendance, punctuality and engagement in learning.
  • Build excellent relationships and communicate effectively with a wide group of people.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience of working in an education setting or similar to improve a child’s school attendance and engagement in learning.
  • Experience engaging with parents/carers, children or individuals through individual and/or group-based support.
  • Knowledge of factors affecting a child’s capacity to learn.
  • Experience working with families from diverse communities.
  • Experience in holistic family support.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding processes and referral routes for safeguarding children.
