Overview
The Department of Anthropology at LSE is recruiting two early-career Research Officers for the ERC-funded project ‘Trading Truths: Missions, Mediations, and Extractions in the South Caucasus’. The position will be based at LSE and will involve carrying out one of the project’s six case studies in partnership with Prof. Mathijs Pelkmans.
Salary and Funding
Salary ranges from £43,277 to £51,714 per annum, inclusive of London allowance. Funding is available for each position from 1 January 2027 to 30 December 2029.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct extensive ethnographic fieldwork in the South Caucasus and, where appropriate, short visits to other countries to present findings.
- Apply specialised data‑collection techniques, gather, analyse and write up resulting data.
- Contribute to project management, including preparation of outputs and dissemination of information to support the project’s scientific goals.
- Maintain project timelines and deliverables, working independently and as part of a team.
Qualifications
- Completed PhD in Anthropology by the post start date (confirmed viva date must be available at time of application).
- Very good knowledge of Anthropology with specialist expertise in the South Caucasus.
- Experience in ethnographic data gathering and field research on themes relevant to the project.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a good command of the English language in written and spoken form.
- Working knowledge of one national language spoken in the South Caucasus.
- Ability to work independently to strict deadlines and cooperatively as part of a team.
- Capacity for self‑learning and keeping pace with developments in a large‑scale, fast‑moving project.
