Senior Research Fellow – Digital Pathology & Artificial Intelligence
University College London (UCL) invites applications for the position of Senior Research Fellow in Digital Pathology and Artificial Intelligence. This role is based within a world-leading research environment focused on advancing computational medicine, digital health technologies, and AI-driven clinical innovation.
The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge research at the intersection of digital pathology, machine learning, and computational biomedical sciences. The role involves developing and applying advanced artificial intelligence methods to digital pathology data, including whole-slide imaging, computational image analysis, and multi-modal clinical data integration. The research aims to improve disease diagnosis, prognostic modelling, and precision medicine approaches.
The postholder will work closely with multidisciplinary teams of clinicians, data scientists, and biomedical researchers. Responsibilities include designing and implementing AI algorithms, managing and analysing large-scale pathological imaging datasets, contributing to high-impact publications, supporting grant applications, and collaborating on translational research projects. The role may also involve mentoring junior researchers and contributing to strategic research development within the department.

Eligibility Criteria
- PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Biomedical Engineering, Bioinformatics, Medical Imaging, or a related discipline
- Extensive postdoctoral research experience relevant to digital pathology, computational imaging, or AI in healthcare
- Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals in relevant fields
- Demonstrated experience in leading or contributing to advanced research projects
- Experience appropriate to a senior research or leadership-level research role
- Strong evidence of interdisciplinary research collaboration, particularly with clinical or biomedical partners
- Ability to contribute to research strategy and funding applications
Required Expertise/Skills
- Expertise in machine learning and artificial intelligence methodologies
- Strong background in digital pathology, medical imaging, or computational image analysis
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or equivalent scientific computing tools
- Experience with deep learning frameworks and large-scale data analysisKnowledge of whole-slide imaging and computational pathology workflows
- Strong statistical analysis and data modelling skills
- Ability to manage and interpret complex biomedical datasets
- Excellent scientific writing and communication skills
- Experience in securing or contributing to research funding proposals
- Ability to collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary clinical and research teams
- Leadership and mentoring capabilities for junior researchers
