Staff Nurse Band 5 – Ward 2 – GynaecologyGood Hope HospitalUp to 37.5 hours per week

Are you a dynamic, innovative newly qualified or experienced Band 5 registered nurse looking for a new challenge? There is an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse to join our team on Ward 2, University Hospital, Birmingham. We are seeking a passionate, dynamic and forward-thinking Registered Nurse who wishes to develop their skills and deliver high quality, patient-centred care on our busy gynaecology ward.

The successful candidate will have an interest in women’s health and want to make a difference to patient care.

  • You will need to be a Registered Nurse (Level 1) or due to enter the register in the next 3 months.

Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required

  • Support individuals with all aspects of care including activities of daily living, providing person-centred care and promoting health and independence.
  • Perform and record clinical observations including blood pressure, temperature, respiration, and pulse.
  • Provide emotional support to patients and relatives.
  • Undertake clinical tasks including wound care, administration of medication, catheterisation, blood glucose monitoring, and other clinical interventions.
  • Accurately record nutritional and fluid intake.
  • Liaise daily with the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ensure the privacy, dignity and safety of individuals is maintained at all times.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Evidence of professional and clinical knowledge acquired through training to degree/diploma level leading to Professional registration on the appropriate part of the NMC register (Adult / Child / Learning Disability or Mental Health).
  • Evidence of undergraduate education for newly qualified nurses or postgraduate continuing professional development for registered nurses with post-registration experience.

Experience

  • Previous/recent experience in an acute secondary health and care setting (including undergraduate student placements within the last 12 months).
  • Willingness to become a practice supervisor/assessor to meet NMC standards for student supervision and assessment.
  • Understanding of the NMC code of conduct and proficiencies and standards for registered nurses as applied to undergraduate training or postgraduate practice.
  • Being an accountable professional; promoting health and preventing ill health; assessing needs and planning care; providing and evaluating care; leading and managing nursing care and working in teams (including prioritisation and delegation).
  • Coordinating care and responding to deteriorating health; improving safety and quality of care; awareness of NHS policy and safeguarding principles; health and safety awareness.

Desirable

  • Experience in working in an Acute NHS practice setting as an undergraduate student nurse or postgraduate registered nurse.

Additional Criteria

  • Demonstrable communication and relationship management skills, including listening, writing, reading, speaking English, and contemporaneous record keeping.
  • Good IT skills and the ability to record information electronically.
  • Competent in a range of clinical skills/nursing procedures and willingness to undertake expanded practices relevant to the scope of practice required.
  • Competent in managing the care of a group of patients / shift management (taking charge in the absence of more senior staff).
  • Professional appearance; genuine interest in the post; positive and enthusiastic attitude; caring and approachable.
  • Ability to work a varied shift pattern including nights/weekends where required.
  • Willingness to be deployed to a different practice setting for a span of duty if required.
