Mencap is seeking passionate Female Support Workers to join our team in Peterborough and the surrounding areas.
As a Female Support Worker, you will make a real difference in the lives of individuals with learning disabilities, assisting with daily activities and providing emotional support.
About the Service
We currently support 18 individuals throughout the week: five receive 24‑hour support, including overnight sleep‑in, and thirteen receive domiciliary and community support. Activities include shopping, medication, financial budgeting, and accessing local leisure activities such as skate parks and swimming pools.
It is desirable that applicants can drive with business insurance to support individuals in accessing the wider community.
What a Support Worker does
- Supporting people to live independently – budget management, paying bills, housework, organising appointments and cooking healthy meals.
- Relationship building – helping the people we support to understand their world and promote positive relationships.
- Community & Social Inclusion – encouraging participation in local community and social events to develop life skills.
- Personal care – assisting with medication prompting, bathing, showering and bathroom use (not all roles include high levels of personal care).
What we’re looking for
- A genuine passion for supporting others.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build meaningful relationships.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
- A positive and empathetic attitude towards individuals with learning disabilities.
Contract options
- Full‑time: 37.5 hours
- Relief: flexible working with no set hours/shifts
Benefits
All our services are 24‑hour care with rosters prepared at least four weeks in advance to help you plan your personal and social life. You will receive an enhanced flat‑rate payment of £64.20 for sleep‑in duties. All roles are subject to an enhanced DBS check and suitable references.
*Due to the nature of this service, we are looking for female only applicants that are able to drive a mobility car. This post is exempt under the Equality Act 2010, Schedule 9, Part 1.
£25,577 per annum, pro‑rata plus excellent benefits.
