Staff Nurse Cardiac Day Unit

We are looking for a registered nurse to cover maternity leave with experience in cardiology nursing and a good understanding of cardiac procedures. Experience in a cardiac day unit or cath lab is advantageous. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and the ability to work autonomously or as part of the wider cardiac team supporting safe delivery of day‑case cardiac procedures. The opening hours are Monday to Friday 08:00–18:00.

Job responsibilities

  • Provide pre‑ and post‑procedural care of patients attending for permanent pacemaker insertion, angiograms, trans‑oesophageal echocardiograms, loop recorder implantation and explants, and dobutamine stress echocardiograms.
  • Assist medical staff with cardiology diagnostic day‑case procedures including TOE, dobutamine stress test, loop recorder insertion, pacemaker insertion and angiography.
  • Demonstrate a high standard of practice in assessing, implementing and evaluating patient care.
  • Participate in service development in collaboration with the Department Manager / Charge Nurse.
  • Promote and engage in a nurse‑led environment ensuring care is delivered per trust policies, procedures and evidence‑based practice in line with national clinical standards.
  • Participate in teaching, education and training.
  • Be aware of budget and resource management within the unit.

Person Specification

Special Skills & Knowledge

  • Awareness of Health and Safety / Clinical Governance issues.
  • Experience using EPR regularly.
  • Basic IT skills including e‑mail and word processing.
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
  • Experience in an interventional setting (eg. Cardiac Cath Lab, X‑Ray, Theatres / anaesthetics).
  • Experience in Cardiology.
  • Clinical skills: IV cannulation, venepuncture, ECG.

Experience

  • Work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Post‑registration experience desirable; training will be provided.
  • Experience of clinical audit.

Qualifications

  • UK RGN / NMC registration.
  • Diploma/Degree in Nursing.
  • Excellent standards of nursing care.

Statutory Registration

  • UK RGN NMC registration.
  • DBS clearance.

£32,073 to £39,043 a year, Pro Rata.
