About the Role
Technical Lift Services Ltd is looking for a General Manager – Commercial Operations to help run and improve the business day to day. This is a senior role with a strong focus on profitability, efficiency, contract performance, client management, and operational control. We are looking for someone who can come into the business, understand how it works, spot where improvements are needed, and help make those improvements happen. This is not a role for someone who only wants to sit behind a desk. It will suit someone who is practical, commercially aware, and comfortable dealing with engineers, office staff, clients, suppliers, and Directors.
Main Purpose of the Role
The main purpose of this role is to help make the business more efficient and more profitable. You will be expected to look at how work moves through the company, where time or money is being lost, and how we can improve the way we operate. This includes service contracts, call‑outs, repairs, modernisation works, office processes, engineer productivity, customer communication, quoting, invoicing, and follow‑up.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial Performance
- Reviewing job margins
- Monitoring labour recovery
- Looking at costs on service, repair, and project work
- Identifying where profit is being lost
- Helping improve pricing and contract performance
- Reviewing underperforming contracts or client accounts
- Supporting the growth of profitable maintenance contracts
- Improving follow‑up on quoted works
Operations
- Supporting the office team
- Supporting the engineering team
- Improving workflow between departments
- Helping jobs move from enquiry to completion more smoothly
- Reducing repeat visits and wasted time
- Making sure work is planned properly
- Helping make sure engineers have the right information before attending site
- Improving communication between the office, engineers, clients and management
Clients and Contracts
- Supporting client retention
- Helping deal with client escalations
- Reviewing contract profitability
- Identifying opportunities for additional works
- Making sure clients are communicated with properly
- Supporting contract renewals and pricing reviews
- Helping protect the company commercially when issues arise
Systems and Processes
- Improving use of the CRM system
- Improving job tracking
- Improving quotation follow‑up
- Improving reportingHelping make invoicing smoother and faster
- Creating clearer accountability across the business
- Helping introduce useful KPIs
- Making sure information is recorded properly
Team Management
- Supporting staff with clear expectations
- Helping improve accountability
- Challenging poor performance where needed
- Supporting good communication across the team
- Helping build a professional and organised working culture
- Making sure people understand what is expected of them
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who is commercially minded, practical, organised, and confident. You do not need to come from a lift background, although lift industry experience would be a strong advantage. You do need to understand how a service‑based business works. The right person will be able to look at a business and ask: Where are we losing money? Where are we wasting time? Which jobs are not profitable? Which clients need more attention? Which processes are slowing us down? What needs to change?
