Carpenter Multi‑Trader

£25–£28 per hour

Working for a Maintenance Contractor; based out of Saffron Walden (CB11 4LH)

Long‑term temporary role in Social Housing Maintenance covering CB10, CB11, CM22, CM23, and CM24.

Own van is preferred; business mileage will be paid weekly.

Work in occupied residential properties, carrying out repairs and maintenance directly for an in‑house contractor team.

Key elements of the role and your responsibilities

  • Core carpentry skills and the ability to undertake a range of multi‑trade duties including: minor plumbing repairs, tiling (mainly splash backs), painting and decorating, patch plastering, and general property maintenance.
  • Experience working in occupied residential properties, ideally domestic tenanted or social housing settings.
  • Deliver excellent customer service and support residents with reactive repairs and maintenance across a portfolio of properties.
  • Work schedule is job‑to‑job, planned route with a wide range of general repairs.
  • Collaborate with schedulers and planners to meet contract SLA delivery timely.
  • Advise supervisor on issues or challenges that require additional support.
  • Work independently or with a team if other trades are required.
  • Complete daily worksheets detailing work undertaken and materials used after each job.

What you need to bring to the role as the successful applicant

  • Strong carpentry background with the ability to carry out multi‑trade works.
  • NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 in Carpentry and Joinery, or “time served” proof.
  • Your own 110 V power tools and hand tools.
  • Ready to use written paperwork or PDA to record jobs completed.
  • Knowledge of SOR codes desirable.
  • Extensive knowledge of maintenance repair works.
  • Ability to manage and carry out booked repairs in a dispersed region.
  • Previous experience in social housing repairs, voids, or planned works.
  • Adherence to company health and safety guidelines.
  • Collaboration with a range of stakeholders.
  • Strong customer service skills due to repairs in occupied properties.
  • Tidy work ethic, keeping adjoining work areas clean and damage‑free.
  • Problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Accountability and initiative.
  • You must have a full UK driving licence.
