Folgate Underwriting Agency is an established and rapidly expanding MGA, and as part of our ambitious long‑term strategy we are seeking to appoint a CUO of our SME division, currently comprising of a suite of 7 products, to lead, grow, and evolve our underwriting portfolio.
Reporting directly to the CEO, this is a senior leadership role within the group with genuine influence, autonomy, and the opportunity to shape the future direction of this pillar of the business.
For a senior underwriter or current manager of P & C products with strong market presence, this is a rare opportunity to step into a position where your decisions directly impact underwriting strategy, broker engagement, and portfolio performance. For the right individual, equity participation may also be available, reflecting the importance and seniority of this position.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the current SME underwriting team, ensuring profitable portfolio performance aligned with risk appetite and business strategy
- Accelerate growth, strengthen, and leverage senior broker relationships to drive sustainable growth and retention
- Collaborate with the executive team on strategy, new and existing product development, and long‑term planning
- Identify and develop niche opportunities, and growth initiatives
- Drive cross‑sell activity across the wider product suite
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high‑performing underwriting team

Skills & Experience
- Extensive experience in P & C underwriting, including senior portfolio or leadership roles
- Proven track record of delivering profitable growth within an MGA or delegated authority environment
- Strong broker network and market presence
- Excellent commercial, analytical, and leadership capabilities
- Experience working closely with Compliance and governance teams
- Co‑Insurance & Excess of Loss experience is a positive
- Mid‑Market UK P & C experience also a positive
