We are looking for a senior journalist to lead the BBC Naidheachdan sports team. You will provide editorial leadership and manage a small team. Your Key Responsibilities And Impact

  • Responsible for originating and producing stories which may include scripting, editing, outputting, filming and presenting content across a range of BBC output.
  • May be required to undertake on‑air reporting; may be required to film and edit material for broadcast where appropriate.
  • As required, allocate work to the team, check progress and ensure the professional contribution of staff and the quality of output. Able to lead the team on a day‑to‑day basis but also contribute ideas and support to the overall management of the site, its team, finances and agenda.
  • Seek ways to increase diversity in our workforce and ensure that our output reflects the audiences we serve.
  • Deliver journalism of the highest standard and within the required timeframe using available resources.

Essential Criteria

  • A deep knowledge of and passion for all sport – at a local, national and international level.
  • Fluent Gaelic speaker with excellent writing skills.
  • Excellent editorial judgement and production skills based on substantial broadcast journalist experience.
  • Ability to handle significant responsibility, line‑managing and leading a small team of journalists.
  • Confidence in prioritising and planning all sport output, taking into account deadlines, existing staffing and resources.
  • Committed to facilitating change independently and exemplifying best practice between teams.

Desired But Not Required

  • Experience of working with internal and external stakeholders to create opportunities and impact.
  • Experience of mentoring junior journalists and supporting staff development.
  • Experience of live broadcasting production.
  • Experience of managing budgets.
