Cryogenic Systems & Infrastructure Engineer

Company: TreQ
Apply for the Cryogenic Systems & Infrastructure Engineer
Location: Milton
Job Description:

As a Cryogenic Systems & Infrastructure Engineer , your primary responsibility will be to ensure the reliable installation and operation of TreQ’s cryogenic systems and infrastructure at our manufacturing and innovation centre. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of cryogenic systems—from shipment and delivery through installation, testing, and operation at TreQ, to preparation, transport, and installation at customer sites. You will work closely with TreQ engineers, operations teammates, and external partners to keep critical systems running and ready for use. This role is for someone who wants to take ownership of critical infrastructure systems, bringing them online, keeping them running, and seeing them deployed into the field.

Responsibilities

  • Operate cryogenic systems and optimise uptime, driving systems to reliable performance through troubleshooting, coordination with manufacturers, and hands‑on intervention
  • Lead installation, commissioning, and bring‑up of systems at TreQ, including integration with facility infrastructure and validation of system readiness
  • Establish and maintain facility infrastructure required for system operation, including cooling systems, chilled water, electrical systems, and access control
  • Manage end‑to‑end system logistics and deployment, including coordinating shipment, customs, receiving, repackaging, and installation at customer sites
  • Build and maintain operational discipline, including creating documentation, organising workspaces, managing parts and consumables inventory, and defining repeatable operating procedures

You might be a fit if…

You know about

  • Dilution refrigerators or closely related low‑temperature systems
  • Facility infrastructure required for advanced computing hardware systems (cooling, power, plumbing, environmental controls)
  • System installation and commissioning in technical environments
  • Working with equipment under warranty, including troubleshooting and escalation
  • Safety practices and operational constraints in manufacturing environments

You have these skills and abilities

  • Troubleshoot complex physical systems methodically in time‑sensitive situations
  • Work hands‑on across mechanical, electrical, and system‑level challenges
  • Collaborate across internal engineers, business leads, vendors, and partners to resolve issues
  • Stay organised and maintain clarity in environments that are initially unstructured
  • Exercise judgement on when to intervene directly vs. coordinate or escalation

You’ve had experiences like these

  • Operating cryogenic, vacuum, and similarly complex physical systems
  • Bringing new systems online, including early‑stage troubleshooting
  • Working with systems that were not yet stable or fully performing to specification
  • Supporting deployment or installation of equipment at external sites
  • Managing or contributing to facility or infrastructure setup for technical operations
  • Working with others to solve complex, practical problems that don’t have clean documentation
  • Keeping critical systems operating
  • Working with your hands as much as your head
  • Creating order and repeatable processes in environments that are still being built
  • Seeing systems go from crates and components to fully operational

Preferred Qualifications

  • Deep experience with dilution refrigerators in quantum, low‑temperature physics, or related environments
  • Familiarity with CAD tools or working with machine shops for custom parts
  • Experience supporting system deployments across multiple sites and customers

For this role you need not

    • Hold an advanced academic degree; we value hands‑on experience more than a degree
    • Have prior experience in quantum computing specifically
    • Develop full mechanical designs or fabricate system components

If TreQ’s mission excites you but your experience doesn’t match every qualification listed, we still encourage you to apply.

    About TreQ

TreQ is a quantum systems engineering company building open‑architecture quantum computing infrastructure. We accelerate discovery and industry at the frontier of computing. Our team brings together engineers, operators, and builders who enjoy solving hard problems and working across disciplines.

We value practical engineering experience as much as formal academic credentials. People join TreQ from industry, national laboratories, startups, academia, and military service. A PhD is not required for most roles.

TreQ is a veteran‑owned, woman‑owned small business and an equal opportunity employer. We hire based on capability, character, and the ability to contribute to our mission.

TreQ aspires to be the quantum computing company people want to work for. We see ourselves as stewards of the brilliant and driven people who choose to invest part of their lives with us. In addition to meaningful work, we offer competitive salaries, equity participation, and strong benefits. For certain strategic roles, titles may be adjusted to reflect the successful candidate’s experience.

TreQ is a hands‑on engineering organization tackling complex systems at the frontier of computing. This work requires close collaboration, trust, and rapid iteration, so most roles work primarily in person where our teams design, build, and operate systems together. Some hybrid flexibility may be available, though candidates should expect to spend the majority of their time on‑site with teammates.

    Export Control Work Authorization Compliance

Some roles at TreQ involve access to technologies subject to export control laws in the United States, the United Kingdom, and other jurisdictions (including ITAR and EAR). Candidates for these roles must be eligible to access export‑controlled technology without TreQ obtaining an export license. In accordance with applicable law, TreQ may also verify citizenship, immigration status, and the right to work where required. Certain roles may not be eligible for visa or export license sponsorship.
