Role Overview

Environmental Technical Lead – responsible for leading environmental subject matter expert (SME) duties for the Wanlip (Leicestershire) and Witches Oak (Nottinghamshire) sites, ensuring compliance and sustainability throughout design and delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Lead on environmental expertise across Capital Design and Delivery (CDD), driving sustainable design choices and ensuring projects achieve outcomes agreed with regulators, contracts and stakeholders.

At Witches Oak: liaise with external stakeholders and regulators to secure the planning application for the ion exchange development; ensure biodiversity work completion at Witches Oak WTW and wetland.

At Wanlip: develop and implement the biodiversity net gain plan in partnership with the supply chain; serve as key point of contact for the project team regarding regulation and compliance.

  • Leading and developing a small team of graduates and apprentices
  • Providing expert environmental advice to internal design and delivery teams
  • Building strong relationships with supply chain to reinforce compliance with legal and contractual requirements
  • Managing consultants delivering environmental work packages, including monitoring progress, reviewing outputs and ensuring delivery on time and budget
  • Engaging with key regulators such as the Environment Agency and Drinking Water Inspectorate, and internal stakeholders
  • Supporting the preparation, assessment, and delivery of environmental framework tenders

Qualifications

  • A strong technical background in a relevant environmental discipline
  • Good understanding of planning and consenting regimes including EIA and biodiversity (BNG)
  • Willingness to develop knowledge of Severn Trent’s internal environmental policies and drivers
  • Proven experience in project management with budget control and leading projects
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
