Head of AI Governance

Salary: £70,100 – £100,000 (depending on experience). Location: London- EC2R 7HJ (Preferred), Staines – TW18 3DZ, Brighton – BN1 4FY, Salford – M50 3SP, Leeds- LS5 3BF. Contract: 12 Months Fixed Term Contract, Full-time. Role specific benefits: 10% Management Scheme Bonus.

Within this Fixed Term Contract, you’ll lead the way in shaping how we use artificial intelligence responsibly across the organisation. As AI becomes more central to how we deliver care and improve outcomes, your work will ensure we do so ethically, transparently and in line with our values. You’ll be joining a business that’s serious about innovation – and equally serious about doing the right thing. This role is your chance to build something from the ground up, influencing how AI is governed across Bupa and helping us stay ahead of regulatory and ethical expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of Bupa’s Responsible AI Framework, embedding ethical principles and best practices into our AI strategy.
  • Chair the High-Risk AI Committee, overseeing the assessment and management of high-risk AI projects.
  • Design and implement risk management strategies for AI activities, ensuring alignment with Bupa’s broader risk frameworks.
  • Monitor and respond to regulatory developments, including GDPR, the EU AI Act, and other emerging standards.
  • Establish and regularly review ethical guidelines for AI development and deployment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data governance managers and AI specialists, to ensure consistent and responsible AI practices across the business.
  • Develop scalable tools, processes and methodologies to support the growth of AI capabilities while maintaining strong governance.

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills – you’ll be confident engaging with technical and non-technical stakeholders alike.
  • Experience developing and implementing governance frameworks and policies.
  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to influence across a complex organisation.
