About Us
Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary is a well-established local charity dedicated to finding loving homes for dogs, cats and rabbits in need. Our retail operation plays a vital role in generating income to support our animal welfare work.
We are looking for an experienced and organised Retail Operations & Area Manager to lead and support our network of four charity shops across the Oxford area. This is a hands-on role that combines commercial retail management with strong operational, administrative, compliance and people management responsibilities.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Board of Trustees, you will be responsible for the performance, standards and day-to-day management of our retail outlets, ensuring they operate safely, efficiently and profitably.
You will work closely with Shop Managers and volunteers to maximise income, maintain excellent customer service standards and ensure full compliance with charity retail, health and safety, and operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, support and develop Shop Managers and volunteer teams across four charity retail outlets.
- Drive sales, profitability and income generation across the retail portfolio.
- Monitor and analyse shop performance, identifying opportunities to improve results.
- Ensure excellent visual merchandising, stock management and customer service standards.
- Maintain strong administrative processes across the retail operation.
- Lead on health and safety management, ensuring policies, procedures and risk assessments are implemented and regularly reviewed.
- Monitor compliance with relevant legislation, charity retail requirements and organisational policies.
- Conduct regular shop visits, audits and compliance checks.
- Manage shop budgets and support financial controls.
- Recruit, train and develop retail staff and volunteers.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across the charity to support organisational objectives and fundraising initiatives.
About You
We are looking for someone who combines strong commercial retail experience with excellent organisational and compliance skills.
You will have:
- Proven experience managing multiple retail sites, stores or charity shops.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop teams.
- Demonstrable experience managing health and safety, compliance and operational standards.
- Excellent administrative and organisational skills with strong attention to detail.
- Experience conducting inspections and performance reviews.
- Good commercial awareness and the ability to drive sales and profitability.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Confidence using retail reporting systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
