Job Purpose
To assist with the work of the Standards Committee and to manage, support and facilitate the work of the sub‑committees reporting to the Standards Committee; to provide advice to veterinary surgeons, veterinary nurses, members of the public and the wider RCVS on matters relating to the Code of Professional Conduct and its supporting guidance; and to support, develop and line manage Standards and Advice officers/Administrative assistants.
Key Responsibilities
Line Management
- To line manage, develop and support Standards and Advice Officers and/or administrative support within the team
- Ensuring direct reports provide high quality, accurate advice to internal and external stakeholders
- To support the senior leadership of the Standards and Advice team and the legal directorate
Standards Committee and advice
- Support the Standards & Advisory Lead with the work of the Standards Committee including preparing agendas, drafting papers and taking minutes.
- Draft changes to the Code of Professional Conduct and Supporting Guidance as directed by the Standards & Advisory Lead (role title to be confirmed) and/or the Standards Committee.
- Assist with formulation of RCVS advice on specific issues.
- Support the work of the Sub Committees reporting to Standards Committee, including the Certification, Recognised Veterinary Practice and Riding Establishments Sub Committees, and the Ethics Review Panel.
- Provide advice to internal and external stakeholders on professional conduct issues specifically those arising from the Code of Professional Conduct; by telephone or email and in accordance with Service Standards.
- Assist with projects and working parties reporting to the Standards Committee
- Support the Standards & Advisory Lead to work collaboratively with external and internal stakeholders
- Undertake other duties within the department and College, as requested by the Standards & Advisory Lead
Quality Assurance and development of best practice
Assist and support the Standards & Advisory Lead with:
- development of internal protocols, including manuals and other resources
- analysis of advice files, including responding to audit reports
- in‑house training for RCVS staff, as well as external training where required
Essential Qualifications
- Ability to understand complex problems and proactively formulate solutions or theories
- Previous experience of working in a public facing advisory capacity providing high quality advice
- A customer‑focused approach, dealing with people in a compassionate, just and fair manner
- Clear, concise, logical and practical approach to issues
- Strong organisational and administrative skills
- Excellent writing and drafting skills
- Excellent telephone manner
- Ability to work as part of a team
