Community Care Solicitor — Position Overview

You will manage a varied claimant community care caseload, acting for vulnerable adults, children and families in challenging decisions made by local authorities and public bodies. You will work alongside experienced housing and public law practitioners in a supportive and expanding team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a varied community care and public law caseload
  • Challenge assessments, care plans and local authority decisions
  • Identify and pursue Judicial Review claims where appropriate
  • Advise clients on community care and Court of Protection matters
  • Ensure local authorities comply with safeguarding and statutory duties
  • Conduct negotiations, advocacy and correspondence as required
  • Maintain excellent client care and regular communication with clients
  • Record time accurately and ensure matters are billed promptly
  • Ensure Legal Aid Agency requirements and compliance obligations are met
  • Supervise junior staff where appropriate

Requirements

  • Qualified Solicitor with a current practising certificate
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in Community Care, Public Law and/or Court of Protection work
  • Experience challenging assessments, care plans and local authority decisions
  • Strong knowledge of community care law, public law and legal aid funding
  • Experience using CCMS and Legal Aid Agency systems desirable
  • Excellent communication and client care skills
  • Strong organisational and problem‑solving abilities
  • Ability to manage a varied caseload independently
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Genuine commitment to access to justice and supporting vulnerable clients
