Job Description:

A leading global law firm is seeking a Conflicts Lawyer to join its London-based Risk & Compliance function. This is a highly visible, stakeholder-facing role within a globally integrated Conflicts & New Business team that works closely with colleagues across the US, Europe and other international offices.

The team plays a key role in enabling the firm’s business by balancing robust risk management with a pragmatic, commercial approach. The successful candidate will work closely with partners and senior stakeholders, providing clear and practical advice on conflicts of interest and new business intake matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reviewing and analysing conflicts reports to identify potential legal and commercial conflicts of interest
  • Conducting corporate and regulatory research to verify new clients and matter parties
  • Preparing conflicts summaries for partners, outlining key risks and proposed resolutions (including waivers, ethical screens and internal clearances)
  • Reviewing and approving new clients and matters in line with firm policies and procedures
  • Advising lawyers and business teams on conflicts and new business intake policies
  • Drafting engagement letters, conflict waivers and ethical screens where required
  • Supporting the onboarding of lateral partners and new joiners from a conflicts and intake perspective

Candidate Profile

  • Qualified lawyer
  • Strong knowledge of professional conduct rules (including SRA Code of Conduct)
  • Excellent legal analytical skills and sound commercial judgement
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Discreet and comfortable handling sensitive and confidential information

Desirable Experience

  • Previous conflicts or new business intake experience within a large international or US law firm
  • Familiarity with compliance and research tools such as Intapp, WorldCheck, Capital IQ or Orbis
  • Knowledge of AML and regulatory compliance frameworks
  • Experience reviewing engagement letters and outside counsel guidelines
