UK & Export Sales Assistant Children’s Books (Full-Time)
Department: Sales and Marketing
Reports to: Sales Team
Based: Head Office (Leicester)
The Role
Working within the Sales team, you’ll be involved with the day‑to‑day overall sales processes within our UK and Export business. With a focus on administrative tasks such as answering queries, managing spreadsheets and creating sales material, you’ll play a pivotal role in keeping the department running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
- Processing purchase orders (via email, Amazon etc.) accurately and efficiently
- Handling general enquiries via e‑mail, telephone and face‑to‑face
- Raising invoices, quotes and credit notes
- Managing customer communications throughout the sales process
- Working closely with the Warehouse/Operations teams to generate shipping quotes and lead times
- Working closely with the Accounts team to allocate incoming payments to orders
- Working with the Export Manager to generate commercial invoices for export sales orders and samples
- Maintaining and updating sales and customer databases
- Generating sales reports
- Submitting new titles to key accounts and sales reps, including quarterly sales kits
- Co‑ordinating sample sending and publicity mailing
- Presenting new products, either in‑person or virtually
- Providing logistical support in the preparation of external events
- Attending (if and when needed) trade sales exhibitions
- Assisting with sales, marketing, publicity and rights tasks, as and when needed
- Working with Design and Editorial teams to maintain up‑to‑date presentation material
- Preparing quarterly rep commission reports
- Undertaking any other duties as required to improve the efficiency, quality and service during the sales order process
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Ability to prioritise and manage a varied workload
- Willingness to work as part of a team
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent level of numeracy and proficiency in use of Excel, PowerPoint and Google Docs
- Attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks
- Ability to complete multiple tasks to their deadlines in a fast‑paced environment
- Passionate about the book/publishing industry
- Knowledge of the different sectors of the children’s book market
- A friendly, can‑do attitude with a willingness to learn
- Organised with the ability to manage workload with competing priorities and to ensure tasks are completed to deadlines
- Excellent communication, verbal and written skills, especially when communicating internally with colleagues and externally corresponding with companies, clients and customers

Working Hours: 40 hours per week Monday to Friday; Core office hours: 9.am – 5pm 30 or 60 minute unpaid lunch
Location: Sweet Cherry Publishing, Units 4U18, The Book Brothers Business Park, Tolwell Road, Beaumont Leys, Leicester, LE4 1BR, United Kingdom
Term: Permanent, subject to a 6‑month probationary period
Holiday: 20 days plus bank holidays
Starting salary: Negotiable depending on experience
